Great Sorrow!

Romans 9:2-4

 I am consumed by great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my race, 4 the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises.

When Paul thinks first of Israel’s glorious calling, and now of its rejection by God because it rejected the Messiah, his heart is filled with great sorrow and continual grief.
