Sitting Still!

August 2, 2025, would have been the Birthday of our firstborn Son, who passed away in 2020, and I would like to share with you again the readings that gave me the perseverance and courage. It's taken from a little book titled Daily Strength for Daily Needs by Mary Tileston (1884-1901).
And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them. – Galatians 6:16.
LORD, I have given my life to Thee,
And every day and hour is Thine, -
What Thou appoint let them be;
Your will is better than mine. A. Waner

BEGIN at once; before you venture away from this quiet moment, ask your King to take you completely into His service, and place all the hours of this day simply at His disposal, and ask Him to make and keep you ready to do just exactly what He appoints. Never mind about tomorrow; one day at a time is enough. Try it today, and see if it is not a day of strange, almost curious peace, so sweet that you will be only too thankful, when tomorrow comes, to ask Him to take it also, till it becomes a blessed habit to hold yourself simply and “completely at Thy commandment for any manner of service.” The “whatsoever” is not necessarily active work. It may be waiting (whether half of hour or half a lifetime), learning, suffering, sitting still. But shall we be less ready for these, if any of them are His appointments for today? Let us ask Him to prepare us for all that He is preparing for us. F. R. Havergal (1836-1879)
