As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two tiny copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” He said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
This widow gave all she had to live on, not only was she poor, but as a widow, she had few resources for making money. Her small gift was a sacrifice, but she gave it willingly. Unlike the way most of us handle our money. When we consider giving a certain percentage of our income a great accomplishment, we resemble those who give out of their wealth. Here Jesus was admiring generosity and sacrificial giving. As believers, we should consider our giving – money, time, or talents.
