My Testimony
My Bloodline – child of God, by adoption, believer in Jesus Christ, born again, spiritual rebirth
Thomas Overbury wrote: “The man who has nothing to boast but his illustrious ancestors is like a potato – the only good belonging to him is underground.”
John 1: 12-13 … as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, nor the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God. (New American Standard)
13 They did not become God's children by natural means, that is, by being born as the children of a human father; God himself was their Father. (Good News Translation)
These are the God-begotten, not blood-begotten, not flesh-begotten, not sex-begotten. (The Message)
All those who believe this are reborn!- not a physical rebirth resulting from human passion or plan- but from the will of God. (Living Bible)
their birth depended not on the course of nature nor any impulse or plan of man, but on God. (J.B. Phillips)
Testimony: When I was born January 1941 on the island of Jamaica then a British colony, my father’s and mother’s family names were well known. Their profession as medical doctors was respected and valued. (Animal bloodlines, racehorses, for example, are said to predict desirable characteristics, or pedigree inherited from a long line of ancestors. I was christened (“baptized”) as an infant, and as a teenager, the Catechism and qualified to take Holy Communion. In school, I attended Chapel Services, and each morning, I read the Bible and devotions from Daily Bread from Scripture Union. At school, I also belonged to the Inter-School Christian Fellowship (ISCF).
AFTER THAT, I became a Christian, truly. This occurred in the Summer of 1980 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I was almost 40 years old! Thanks be to God. I am now 83 years old and so very grateful. Praise Be To The Lord. Bless the Lord and forget not his benefits (Psalm 103)
Becoming children of God who believe in His Name: Since the Fall of Adam, all human beings are born sinners by nature. Unbelievers deny being sinners; they deny the need to be saved and changed. Their pride stands in the way. Being humble precedes repentance and faith to believe.
“… He gave the right”: we cannot save ourselves; we cannot inherit it, we cannot earn it.
“… born, not of blood”: “blood-line” and lineage, pedigree, and ancestry do not count.
“… born not of the will of the flesh”: climbing the social ladder, club and church membership.
“… nor of the will of a man”: religious service, civic service.
